Madison Little League Divisions

Madison Little League is comprised of seven divisions, for players aged 5-16. Unsure of which division your child will play in? Check the League Age Chart or contact the Player Agent.

Tee Ball

Tee Ball

League Age: 5-6

Tee Ball is an instructional league with emphasis on basic fundamentals. Games are played after weekly skill development sessions are taught by coaches.

Draft: There is no draft for the Tee Ball Division. Players are randomly assigned to teams, with consideration given to schools and friend requests made at registration.

Player Assessment: Not required.

Allowed bats: USABat standard tee ball bats only.

Game Schedule: Saturday mornings with exceptions for Opening Day and May Day. Rainouts are typically rescheduled to Sunday.

Other Information: A League Age 6 player who is new to baseball may have to play one year of Tee Ball. The number of Tee Ball teams and the number of players per team may vary from year to year based on the number of players registered and the number of volunteer coaches.

Farm

Farm

League Age: 6-7

Farm is an instructional league with emphasis on skill development. Modified games are played after skill development sessions are taught by coaches. Initial games are coach-pitch; player pitching is introduced toward the end of the season.

Draft: There is no draft for the Farm Division. Players are randomly assigned to teams, with consideration given to schools and friend requests made at registration.

Player Assessment: Not required.

Allowed bats: USABat standard only.

Game Schedule: 1-2 evenings per week, plus Saturdays, with a season-ending Pitch, Hit and Run contest. Rainouts may be rescheduled on Sundays.

Other Information: A League Age 6 player who is new to baseball may have to play one year of Tee Ball before playing in Farm. A League Age 8 player who has never played in Madison Little League may have to play one year of Farm prior to playing in AA. The number of Farm teams and the number of players per team may vary from year to year based on the number of players registered and the number of volunteer coaches.

AA

AA

League Age: 8-9

AA is an instructional league with emphasis on skill development. Six-inning games are played on a Little League (46/60) field and combine player- and coach-pitch with modified playing rules. All players are in the batting order, and defensive substitutions can be made freely.

Draft: Players are assigned to teams based on a draft.

Player Assessment: An assessment is required only if the player is new to Madison Little League. To assist in the draft, player evaluations are provided by coaches from the previous season based on the player's performance throughout that season.

Allowed bats: USABat standard only.

Game Schedule: 2-3 evenings per week, plus Saturdays, with playoffs and a Championship Game. Rainouts may be rescheduled on Sundays.

AAA

AAA

League Age: 9-10

AAA plays six-inning games, which are exclusively player-pitch, on a Little League (46/60) field. There are some modified playing rules. All players are in the batting order, and defensive substitutions can be made freely.

Draft: Players are assigned to teams based on a draft. Players who are League Age 10 and are not drafted into Majors will play in AAA.

Player Assessment: An assessment is required only if the player is new to Madison Little League. To assist in the draft, player evaluations are provided by coaches from the previous season based on the player's performance throughout that season.

Allowed bats: USABat standard only.

Game Schedule: 2-3 evenings per week, plus Saturdays, with playoffs and a Championship Game. Rainouts may be rescheduled on Sundays.

Majors Call-Ups: Under two situations, a AAA player may be called up to the Majors Division - (1) if a Majors player suffers a lengthy or season-ending injury, or (2) if a Majors player leaves a team. In either case, the Majors manager, working with the Player Agent, must select a replacement player from AAA. Only those players who are League Age 10 AND attended the player assessment are eligible to be called up. The called-up player does not have the option to remain in AAA, and must move up to Majors.

Majors

Majors

League Age: 10-12

Majors plays six-inning games on a Little League (46/60) field, with few modified playing rules. All players are in the batting order, and defensive substitutions can be made freely.

Draft: Players are assigned to teams based on a draft. League Age 11 players can only play in Majors; League Age 10 players who participated in the player assessment are eligible to be drafted into Majors.

Player Assessment: Little League International mandates a player assessment for any League Age 10 or 11 player to be eligible for Majors. All League Age 10 and 11 players who have not played in the Majors Division before and wish to be draft-eligible MUST participate in the player assessment.

IMPORTANT notes about the Assessment:

If a League Age 11 player who did not previously play in the Majors Division does NOT attend the assessment, that player cannot be placed on any team in any division.

If a League Age 10 player who did not previously play in the Majors Division does NOT attend the assessment, that player cannot be drafted to the Majors Division, and can only play in AAA.

Game Schedule: 15-18 regular-season games, followed by playoffs and a three-game Championship Series. Games are played 2-3 evenings per week, plus Saturdays. Rainouts may be rescheduled on Sundays.

Other Information: All Majors teams have 12 players. Players who are League Age 12 can choose to play in the Majors or Intermediate division. Depending on the on the number of teams being fielded, the number of returning players, and the number of League Age 11 players who must play in Majors, not all League Age 10 players who are eligible for the Majors draft will be drafted to a Majors team. These players will play in AAA.

Intermedaite Div

Intermediate (50/70)

League Age: 12-13

Intermediate plays seven-inning games on a mid-sized (50/70) field, with few modified playing rules. All players are in the batting order, and defensive substitutions can be made freely.

Draft: Players assigned to teams based on a draft

Player Assessment: An assessment is required only if the player is new to Madison Little League. To assist in the draft, player evaluations are provided by coaches from the previous season based on the player's performance throughout that season.

Allowed bats: USABat or BBCOR standard.

Game Schedule: 12-15 regular-season games, followed by playoffs and a three-game Championship Series. Games are played 2-3 evenings per week, plus Saturdays. Rainouts may be rescheduled on Sundays.

Other information: Players who are League Age 13 can choose to play in the Intermediate or Seniors division. Players who are League Age 12 can choose to play in the Majors or Intermediate division.

Juniors

Seniors

League Age: 13-16

Seniors plays seven-inning games on a regulation-sized (60/90) field with virtually no modifications to the playing rules. There is some flexibility with the batting order and defensive substitutions.

Draft: Players assigned to teams based on a draft

Player Assessment: An assessment is required only if the player is new to Madison Little League. To assist in the draft, player evaluations are provided by coaches from the previous season based on the player's performance throughout that season.

Allowed bats: BBCOR standard only. USABat not permitted.

Game Schedule: 12-15 regular-season games, followed by playoffs and a three-game Championship Series. Games are played 2-3 evenings per week, plus Saturdays. Rainouts may be rescheduled on Sundays.

Other Information: Players who are League Age 13 can choose to play in the Intermediate or Seniors division.
