All-Star Tournament Team Selection Method
All-Star Tournament teams are formed based on Manager nominations, which is Little League's recommended and preferred method. Why?
- Managers are best positioned to know players' strengths.
- Nominations are based on Managers' observations of several weeks of actual game play rather than a one-time snapshot of performance at a tryout.
- Nominations allow Managers to consider other factors beyond playing skills, such as position-specific knowledge, teamwork, leadership, coachability, attitude, and behavior.
Selection Criteria
All-Star Tournament team selection is based on three criteria:
- Eligibility - in addition to meeting the residence or school attendance requirement to play in MLL, a player must attend a minimum of eight regular season games (not counting playoffs) to be eligible for tournament team selection.
- Availability - tournament teams require a high level of commitment. Player availability and schedule conflicts with other sports, vacations, etc. are considered when selecting players. Parents will be asked to provide their player's summer availability prior to being offered a tournament team invitation.
- Ability - we gather this information through the nomination process.
Committment and Attendance Expectations
- The All-Star Tournament is highly competitive, and players are expected to attend all practices and games.
- The Tournament typically runs from mid-June through late-July, and possibly into August if a team advances beyond the State Championship.
- Games and practices are weeknights and weekends, possibly including Sundays.
- Some teams may need to play games through the July 4 holiday weekend.
- Players must be fully available at least through the State round of the tournament (end of July).
